A Korean MC who previously caused controversy due to a drunk driving and hit-and-run incident has once again become the center of controversy for assaulting a female BJ during a live internet broadcast.
According to online communities and the broadcasting industry on the 11th, MC Ding Dong (also known as Heo Yong Woon) got into an argument with a female BJ during a recent internet broadcast and assaulted her.
The broadcast was conducted in a so-called “Excel broadcast” format. An Excel broadcast organizes the ranking of donations by participating BJs in an Excel sheet-like manner to encourage competition among viewers.
The incident began when the female BJ made mocking remarks referring to MC Ding Dong’s past drunk driving and hit-and-run incident while performing a rap. Enraged, MC Ding Dong stood up, rushed at the female BJ, grabbed her hair, and assaulted her; this scene was broadcast live.
The sudden situation left the other participants shocked. After the assault, MC Ding Dong immediately left the scene but returned to the camera shortly after to apologize. Tearfully, he said, “I’m sorry for showing unprofessional behavior. I apologize once again to the viewers and BJs,” adding, “I can accept all kinds of insults, but when I heard the mention of the ‘incident from two years ago,’ it triggered trauma and thoughts of my children, so I lost my temper.”
MC Ding Dong also addressed the past drunk driving incident once again. He tearfully explained, “I had no work for a year and a half, and I was finally trying to show that I’m living diligently again. But when I heard those comments…” He bowed repeatedly, adding, “I will never drink and drive again.”
Previously, in 2022, MC Ding Dong was arrested near Hawolgok-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, for driving under the influence while heavily intoxicated, refusing the police’s breathalyzer test, and fleeing the scene. The incident also involved crashing into a police car. He was prosecuted for violation of the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and obstruction of official duties causing injury, receiving a sentence of one year and six months in prison with a two-year probation period.
A former SBS 9th class comedian, he was once known as the “Number One Sub-MC” and “Yoo Jae Suk of Sub-MCs,” receiving offers for various events. However, after the incident, he stepped down from sub-MC roles on KBS2’s Immortal Songs and You Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook. Recently, he made a comeback by joining as a sub-MC for Active King Season 3.
