Fate troubles Kim Hye-soo as The Affair Was Just the Beginning

It’s D-1 until The Affair Was Just the Beginning takes off on Coupang Play, brewing misfortune and unease for Kim Hye-soo (Unmasked), Jo Yeo-jung (Made in Korea), Kim Ji-hoon (Dear X), and Kim Jae-chul (Perfect Crown) in the black comedy’s latest promos.
The video teaser first backtracks to the early days of Park Kyung-hee’s (Kim Hye-soo) marriage, when she and struggling actor Lim Jae-hong (Kim Ji-hoon) lived in a small, rundown apartment with their baby daughter Ye-ji (teenage version played by Jeon Shi-hyun). But they persevered, building Kyung-hee’s influencer channel from the bottom-up. And we see the steady upgrades to better filming equipment as well as better homes, until we re-meet our successful heroine in the present day, celebrating her family’s move into their fancy dream house.
All throughout, Kyung-hee and Jae-hong have been a devoted and openly affectionate pair, and they’re only too happy to befriend next door neighbor Ahn Soo-jung (Jo Yeo-jung) as well as her daughter Do Young-seo (You and Everything Else). The two families are soon having dinner parties and the parents even take turns driving the kids to school. But this of course is the cue for when everything goes sour.
It starts with a petty move by Soo-jung’s separated husband Joo Bo-sung (Kim Jae-chul), who reported her for child abuse in order to appeal the decision that gave his wife full custody – even though it’s Bo-sung’s cheating that broke their family. However, the sequence also has Soo-jung behaving curiously towards Jae-hong and it’s Kyung-hee’s turn to feel that something is off.
Our heroine thus follows her husband, suspecting an affair, and yikes because they now somehow have a dead body on their hands. And it seems that Soo-jung has been watching. It’s unclear if Jae-hong is the murderer, but it’s a scandalous situation regardless considering that both he and Kyung-hee are celebs. And the teaser closes on their fumbling attempts to bury their secrets.
Helmed by PD Lee Chang-hee (A Killer Paradox, Hell Is Other People) with co-writing by Jung Eun-kyung and Park Soo-rin, Coupang Play’s The Affair Was Just the Beginning will be coming to our screens tomorrow on July 31.
