BLACKPINK has finally made their much-awaited comeback with DEADLINE, but their new release has been hit with major criticism online.

    BLACKPINK | YG Entertainment

On February 27, KST, the group released their new mini album, along with a music video for “GO.”

While initially the music video received an enthusiastic reception, once some fans noticed the credits, things changed. As it turns out, the VFX used in the music video was heavily AI-generated, with over eleven names credited under “AI VFX” and “AI Production.”

This discovery immediately soured public opinion about the BLACKPINK release. For fans, it was even more shocking given how the group used to take pride in filming their earlier music videos in elaborate real-life sets that looked like CGI.

love how bp fans used to pride their music videos for never using green screen and stick with all practical set, and now their two last music videos being just straight up generated ai vomit https://t.co/mPz703FuU6

They worked with Dr Luke , the mv GO was produced by AI and there’s no point defending them by saying, “It’s not their fault they’re 30 “not 17 It’s so embarrassing https://t.co/vUCnVOUfzD

When the biggest groups do it, it becomes even mkre normalised.

And the fact that the ai was not even subtle. It was so evident. https://t.co/Lk28L6T1Ks pic.twitter.com/ynJ3ymnM6i

BP rlly dropped an ep with 2 dr luke songs and an AI music video fucking mess 😭😭

went from insane mv’s with the biggest production, to ai slop. blackpink you’re truly over. https://t.co/6wOuGCU6hN

as a bp stan who hates ai im so tired guys😭😭😭 i dont wanna hate the girls but cmon man https://t.co/jVwS7iXFMy

While the usage of generative AI is starting to become increasingly normalized in creative industries, many artists and end-users are still pushing against it due to its environmental wreckage and ethical considerations. Given that a significant portion of K-Pop fans fall under this category, these reactions to BLACKPINK’s music video are not completely unexpected.

Meanwhile, the group’s new album has faced further criticism over other issues as well.
