MBC’s newest action comedy A Bona Fide Killer begins promotions with a look at the cast’s first script read. Starring Gong Hyo-jin (When the Stars Gossip) as the titular killer, she is joined by Jung Joon-won (Resident Playbook), her journalist husband who remains unaware that the renowned assassin he was investigating shares the same bed as him.

Like many modern-day women, Yoo Bo-na (Gong Hyo-jin) wears many hats. At home, she is a devoted mother to a four-year-old daughter and a dedicated wife to her loving husband. To most of society, she is also the manager of a sales team at an electronics company, but in reality, she actually works for a secret organization where she is better known as the legendary sniper “Kingfisher.” With her maternity leave over, Bo-na returns to her life of fighting crime, which means stretching herself thin trying to balance family and work.

Married to our sniper is the upright investigative reporter Kwon Tae-sung (Jung Joon-won). From a young age, Tae-sung dreamed of creating a more just world which led him down the path to become a journalist. After marrying Bo-na and having an adorable daughter together, he believes his family is the best thing to have ever happened to him, unaware that that the very individual he has been chasing at work is actually his wife.

Playing the role of Tae-sung’s best friend, Detective Lee Dong-jin, is Lee Sang-yi (The Legend of Kitchen Soldier). Like his friend, Dong-jin cannot stand injustices, which means killers like Kingfisher must be caught. Even if all their victims were criminals, he believes no one is above the law and takes over the case to catch the assassin with his junior partner Choi Woo-sung (Can This Love Be Translated?).

On Bo-na’s side, Sung Dong-il (We Are All Trying Here) plays her boss Kim Bong-pal who leads the “Avengers” Sales Team 3. Also part of the lineup is hacker Mu Jin-sung (Strangers Again), the brains Heo Jae-ho (Siren’s Kiss), administrator Kim Ga-hee (When Life Gives You Tangerines), and poisoner Ha Yool-ri (The Tale of Lady Ok). In addition, Seo Jung-yeon (You and Everything Else) plays Bo-na’s retired team member who she considers like a sister and mother.

Directed by PD Yoon Jong-ho (Lovely Runner) with scripts by Kim Eun-hee (The Golden Spoon), MBC’s webtoon adaptation A Bona Fide Killer is slated for fourteen episodes and premieres July 31 in the Friday-Saturday slot.
