Gu Kyo-hwan and Go Yoon-jung heal each other in We Are All Trying Here

    by solstices

Another teaser gives us a deeper look into JTBC’s upcoming drama We Are All Trying Here, highlighting the healing process of finding a confidant and overcoming difficult times together.

Overlooking the cityscape, struggling director Hwang Dong-man — played by Gu Kyo-hwan (Parasyte – The Grey) — screams his name, as if to vent his frustrations and motivate himself. All the way over in her apartment, Go Yoon-jung (Can This Love Be Translated) pauses in the middle of her morning routine as the film PD Byun Eun-ah. Her curiosity has been piqued — just who is this Hwang Dong-man, and why is he struggling so?

Their paths soon cross, though we aren’t shown how. As she gradually learns more about him, Eun-ah begins to wonder why others find Dong-man so difficult to handle. He might be a bit of an oddball, unabashedly jamming along to music from his headphones at a train crossing, but he has a good heart within. Upon reading Dong-man’s script, Eun-ah comments that he seems like someone with a thousand doors open to him. In other words, she sees the potential within him, and all the opportunities within his grasp.

On Dong-man’s end, too, he’s settled into a comfortable dynamic with Eun-ah. For all his quirky antics and loud outdoor yelling, there’s a gentler side to him too. Just as he admits: when he’s around someone he likes, he mellows out considerably. Despite the daily anxiety Dong-man contends with, all it takes is one text from Eun-ah for his watch’s health monitor to glow a peaceful green. “The same goes for me,” says Eun-ah.

It’s just as if their love was meant to be. When Eun-ah’s next to him, she finds her heart wholly at ease. Even if her struggles push her to the point of tears, his presence alone is able to clear up her distress.

Once again, the pair meet at a train crossing. This time, Dong-man’s face is heavily bruised, as if someone has just beaten him up. But with her support by his side, it seems he’ll be able to pull through. Eun-ah, too. Affirming, comforting, and inspiring each other, they’ll walk through life’s ups and downs one step at a time. As the pair comes face-to-face, they share a calm, contented smile.

Directed by Cha Young-hoon (Welcome to Samdal-ri, When the Camellia Blooms) with scripts penned by Park Hae-young (My Liberation Notes, My Ajusshi), We Are All Trying Here is slated for an April 18 premiere on JTBC, with streaming available via Netflix.
