Ha Jung-woo teaches Mad Concrete Dreams 101

In a quick flip that has Mad Concrete Dreams morph into fevered nightmares, we follow a distressed Ha Jung-woo (Narco-Saints) in tvN’s latest promos as he scrambles to protect his family as well as the property under their name.
Referencing our story’s Korean title, the two new teasers have Ki Su-jong (Ha Jung-woo) as our teacher in a humorous spoof on instructional how-to videos, breaking down the steps to how one should not become a building owner in South Korea. We thus start with Class 1, ‟The Weight of Building Owners,” where we’re taught three important steps: sell your soul on bank loans; fill in gaps with private loans; and push through until the end.
More crucially, we learn through the sequence that Su-jong’s mortgage on his 3-story building is 1 billion won and the bank has already sent a reminder notice to pay the almost 5 million in interest. On top of this, it seems Su-jong owes at least another 200 million that he managed to borrow from his brother-in-law. And all this risk is dependent on our hero’s plan to wait it out and cash in big if when the neighborhood is zoned for re-development.
In the meantime, Su-jong moves onto Class 2, ‟The Weight of a Breadwinner,” a.k.a. failing to reassure Im Soo-jung (Low Life). She is rightly worried about the piling debts and Su-jong simply says that he’ll take care of it, concealing the trouble that he’s in. He then overtaxes himself by taking on any odd part-time job to bring in extra income. And when that’s not enough, he breaks his promise by emptying their daughter’s college fund without talking to his wife.
This is when creepy family friend Kim Joon-han (Newtopia) steps in to make a taunting last offer to help (and be helped by) Su-jong. Presumably, this is how our story’s fake kidnapping scheme begins and I’m expecting Krystal (Way Back Love) as well as Shim Eun-kyung (Way Back Love) to also get tangled in the mix.
Slated to premiere next month on March 14, tvN’s Mad Concrete Dreams will be airing weekends following Undercover Miss Hong. The suspense-thriller has filmmaker Im Pil-sung (Persona, Scarlet Innocence) at the helm and scripts penned by novelist Oh Han-ki (Baguette Child Soldier).
