A new girl group set to debut this month is facing heated reactions over the young ages of several of its members.

A2O LITE was recently announced as the newest girl group under A2O Entertainment, the agency established by SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo Man. Along with the label’s new boy group, A2O SOUL, A2O LITE marks Lee Soo Man’s return to K-Pop after his three-year non-compete agreement (tied to selling SM Entertainment shares to HYBE) expired.

Reportedly trained by Girls’ Generation’s Sunny, the group has been highly anticipated by many. However, its lineup has quickly become the wrong type of talking point. Three of the members — OA, Aijing, and Ayune — are all believed to have been born in 2013, making them 13 years old at most and possibly as young as 12 if their birthdays have not yet passed.

Even Young, the member believed to be the eldest, is said to have been born in 2008, making her just 17 to 18 years old. Given the controversial increase in the number of minors debuting in K-Pop over the last few years, it comes as no surprise that numerous K-Pop fans have slammed the agency, with many stating that they refuse to support the group.
