How to welcome and ward off Phantom Lawyer Yoo Yeon-seok
by tccolb
Preparing us for a campy, spooky, and jolly good time on SBS’s upcoming Phantom Lawyer in the newest teaser and stills, our story’s ghost beacon Yoo Yeon-seok (When the Phone Rings) has established some handy guidelines to try and make sense of all this ghost-possession hullabaloo.
It’s a textbook scary tale when the trailer opens, leaving Shin Yi-rang (Yoo Yeon-seok) all alone, in the thundering storm of night. But our hero quickly realizes that the dead are not unlike the living. In fact, other than trying (and failing) to frighten Yi-rang, the ghostly Heo Sung-tae (Good Boy) – in a special guest appearance – is completely harmless. And the ‟horror” or danger level is actually 0%.
The problematic part is that Yi-rang’s body can get taken over, which he explains to his new partner and fellow attorney Esom (LTNS). After fumbling through some trial-and-error, Yi-rang deduces that, first, the trigger is human desire, such as his favorite food or song, which serve as a distraction perhaps to bring his guard down. Blushing, rosy cheeks are then the sign indicating that a spirit has indeed entered his body. However, the ghost can be exorcised by a small – or large – splash of water.
The first set of rules are pretty straightforward, but as Han Na-hyun (Esom) continues to read the list, she finds it harder to understand. Case in point, Rule 6: The weight of memory is proportionate to body weight (Or maybe not…). And for anyone who might be wondering, Rule 9 stipulates that we can’t high-five a ghost. What a shame. Yi-rang agrees, though, that it’s easier to show than tell, and the video teaser concludes on our team assembling to set out.
Also starring Kim Kyung-nam (Connection), Jeon Suk-ho (Mother and Mom), Kim Mi-kyung (Surely Tomorrow), and Lee Deok-hwa (Undercover Miss Hong) among other talents, SBS’s Phantom Lawyer will be launching this weekend on March 13.
Production for the supernatural comedy has PD Shin Joong-hoon (Seoul Busters, One Dollar Lawyer) directing with scripts by Kim Ga-young and Kang Chul-kyu (Alice).
