Singer and actress IU has unexpectedly become part of an ongoing political controversy after her Instagram account was flooded with comments related to recent election disputes.
Following South Korea’s latest election, some polling stations reportedly ran out of ballot paper. In particular, controversy surrounding ballot box management in the Jamsil area led some citizens to raise allegations of election fraud. Protests and rallies have since been held by those questioning the election process.

- “Democracy has been destroyed, and people are out protesting the Election Commission. You do realize it’s contradictory not to buy them coffee in advance, right?”
- “Please share some of your wealth with us.”
- “Please prepay for Starbucks in Jamsil.”
- “Please donate some drinks to the protesters in the Jamsil area this time ㅠㅠ. UAENAs are suffering. Please ♥”
- “You won’t be able to get out of this one this time.”
- “Our voting rights have been taken away, and you’re not buying us coffee? We’re in the middle of a pro-democracy movement.”
- “People have gathered in Jamsil because of the alleged election fraud… Could you prepay for some coffee?”
- “Noona, there are so many citizens in front of the Songpa Handball Gymnasium who feel their voting rights have been taken away. Could you at least send a food truck? ㅠㅠ”
The requests appear to reference IU’s well-known practice of supporting fans and event attendees by occasionally paying for drinks, snacks, or food trucks.

The situation quickly gained attention online and sparked debate on Pann, where netizens discussed both the protesters’ actions and the public’s expectations of celebrities during political controversies.

- “I’ve thought this for a long time, but it’s so bizarre how people praise celebrities as being ‘socially conscious’ just because they prove they’re Democrats. Now all those celebrities who used to act righteous are staying completely silent.”
- “It’s honestly hilarious. During the last election, people went after Karina just for wearing red, but this time she posted a photo wearing blue, and nobody says a thing. LOL.”
- “Leftists still haven’t come to their senses. At this rate, the country will eventually be taken over and turned into the communist state you all seem to want. Then you won’t be able to use YouTube, Instagram, or online communities anymore, you’ll just hang a photo of Lee Jae Myung on your wall and live off the little bit of money the government gives you while scraping by in poverty.”
- “These people are seriously insane LOL. Are martial law and this really on the same level…?”
- “Wow, those Ilbe users are seriously pathetic.”
