On June 16, the Korea Airport Corporation (KAC) plans to revise its guidance methods, including its website, to strengthen procedures for departing passengers.
An airport official stated, “We are reviewing ways to strengthen the guidance regarding departures and plan to proceed accordingly.”
They announced they would revise their guidance procedures regarding identification verification directly, stemming from Jang Wonyoung’s recent controversy at Gimpo International Airport.
They plan to conduct uniform identity verification for all passengers at 14 airports nationwide in accordance with the Aviation Security Standard Procedures (ASPL) regulations, which state, “passengers must be requested to remove items covering the face (hats, sunglasses, masks) before identity verification is conducted.”
However, netizens expressed a divided response to the announcement.

- “They need to have the same process for regular people and celebrities.”
- “This was no problem at first, but because this could cause problems later, they decided to change it. The employees are going to be busy now.”
- “Why is everyone saying they feel bad for her?”
- “This is how it should be done. They need to take off masks and hats so that employee can see their faces better. This is better for everyone’s sake.”
- “What do you mean you feel bad? They have to do everything equally.”
- “The entitlement is real LOL.”
- “Hwaiting to the employees. People need to stop defending her.”
- “If she had just done everything properly, it wouldn’t have gone this far. There were a lot of other celebrities who passed while wearing masks and hats before.”
Previously, Jang Wonyoung went viral for the identity verification process she underwent while departing for Shanghai. She received criticism for not complying with the guidelines in the video.
This later led to a civil complaint, stating that while Incheon International Airport explicitly posted its screening notices, Gimpo International Airport did not.
