Netflix has announced the cast of its newest action crime drama The Dealer (working title). Set against the backdrop of a casino, the story follows a dealer who joins the table as a player in order to save her marriage plans.
In the role of the titular dealer is Jung So-min (Would You Marry Me) as Jung Geon-hwa. Though she is an ace dealer who knows how to entertain her guests, Geon-hwa stays clear from alcohol and gambling herself. However, while trying to procure a new home to move into with her boyfriend, they fall for a scam, and now, Geon-hwa’s wedding plans have gone amok. As a last resort, she awakens her hidden talents and jumps into the world of gambling to fix her problems.
Offering Geon-hwa a helping hand in her new quest is Ryu Seung-beom (Family Matters) as Hwang Chi-su. He is a regular at the casino who gambles away every cent he earns from begging on the streets. Though he was once a regular office worker with a wife, he fell into temptation and spends most of his time at the casino where Geon-hwa works.
Adding some tension to the mix is Lee Soo-hyuk (S Line) as Jo Jun. A skilled player with an unreadable poker face, Jun enters the scene and shakes up the casino world with his presence.
Filling out this quartet is Ryu Kyung-soo (Our Unwritten Seoul) playing Geon-hwa’s boyfriend Choi Woo-seung. He is a violent crimes detective devoted to his job and chases down his suspects until the bitter end. However, in front of Geon-hwa, he is nothing but gentle and affectionate.
Picking up the megaphone in his directorial debut is cinematographer Choi Young-hwan who has worked on many notable films including Veteran, Smugglers, and Tazza: The High Rollers. As for the script, this will be writer Lee Tae-young’s debut as well, having previously worked as a script supervisor for movies such as On Your Wedding Day and Beasts Clawing at Straws. In addition, the production team behind Netflix’s hit show Squid Game is attached to the project alongside director Hwang Dong-hyuk who is an executive producer.
