A Korean actress spoke about her past life in a goshiwon, a small, budget accommodation with shared kitchen and bathroom.
During the recording MBN’s talk show Kim Joo Ha’s Day & Night, actress Goo Hye Sun revealed that she lived in a goshiwon for a year, surprising everyone. Given that her profession involves being recognized by many people, living in a goshiwon with shared facilities could be uncomfortable.
However, Goo Hye Sun said, “I didn’t find using the shared shower in the goshiwon uncomfortable at all,” adding, “The shower was communal, but it worked on a system where one person used it, then when they finished, the next person could go in. It was fine.”
She even said about living in the goshiwon, “The best part was that cleaning took just one minute, which was great. When I was at home, it felt like I needed a lot of things, but after downsizing to just what I needed to live in a goshiwon, I realized I didn’t need much.”
Goo Hye Sun also shared, “From undergraduate to graduate school over six years, I wore almost the same clothes. Having many clothes actually means you don’t know what to wear, but if you only have one kind, you just wear that,” explaining why she wore multiple sets of the same design.
Regarding her extreme minimalist lifestyle, Goo Hye Sun explained, “After experiencing anaphylactic shock, I thought, ‘If I die, who will clean up all this stuff?’ Also, because my pet dog chewed up things in the house, I started organizing and getting rid of items one by one.“
