Rapper Dok2 has been accused of not paying off his outstanding payments for jewelry for three years.
According to a report by Munhwa Ilbo on the 3rd, legal firm Oh Kims, which served as the legal representative of the jewelry company, stated in a release, “Dok2 was ordered by the court to repay the debt in three installments through enforced mediation, but so far, he has only made one payment, and the remaining debt remains unpaid.”
A, who runs an overseas jewelry company, filed a lawsuit against Dok2’s former agency, Illionaire Records, in October 2019. At that time, A claimed, “Dok2 purchased seven pieces of jewelry worth about $206,000 (approximately 267 million KRW at the exchange rate then) in three transactions in 2018 but failed to pay $34,740 of the amount.”
In July 2022, the court mostly accepted A’s claim and ruled that Dok2 pay the outstanding amount and late fees in three installments. It also stipulated that if any payment was delayed even once, the unpaid amount and late fees must be paid immediately.
After the ruling, Dok2 made a single payment of about $11,580 in September 2022 but reportedly made no further repayments. The remaining amount, including late fees, now totals about $32,623.
A’s legal representative noted, “We understand that Dok2 is currently residing long-term in the United States. It is difficult to accept logically that while postponing debt repayment citing financial difficulties, he continues to stay long-term in the U.S.”
They also mentioned a possible legal response to 808 Hi Recordings, a label recently established by Dok2 and his partner, singer Lee Hi. “We will closely examine the circumstances of the label’s establishment and asset structure,” they said, adding, “If necessary, we will actively pursue all legal measures for debt preservation, such as enforced execution and provisional seizure.”
Meanwhile, Dok2 recently confirmed his romantic relationship with Lee Hi and announced their label collaboration and plans to resume activities via social media.
