TV personality Jonathan has shared a surprising glimpse into his friendship with aespa‘s Karina, revealing that the two regularly keep in touch behind the scenes.
On the June 10 episode of MBC‘s Radio Star, Jonathan appeared as a guest. During the show, host Jang Do Yeon brought up rumors about Jonathan’s close relationship with Karina. Rather than responding with the idol’s stage name, Jonathan immediately referred to her by her real name.
“Are you talking about Jimin?”
Jonathan explained that he often playfully mentions Karina to his friends in order to show off.
“We’re the same age. When my friends ask me, ‘Is Karina pretty?‘ I purposely act close and say, ‘Are you talking about Jimin?’”
The broadcaster revealed that he first became acquainted with the aespa member while filming the variety show Synchro U together. What impressed him most, however, was Karina’s kindness behind the scenes. According to Jonathan, the idol personally prepared albums and handwritten letters for the cast. He admitted he was initially shocked by the gesture.
“She gave me albums and handwritten letters. I even went to her manager and asked, ‘We’re here to work. Is it okay for her to be doing this?‘ At first I thought it was special, but when filming ended, I realized she had prepared things for everyone. Even when she came back from overseas schedules, she still wrote individual letters and prepared personalized gifts for every cast member.”
Jonathan then revealed that he eventually exchanged contact information with Karina. However, he created strict rules for himself after receiving her number.
“I had three rules: Never contact her first. Never talk about Karina publicly. And never act like we’re close.”
Fans were delighted by Jonathan’s story, with many praising Karina’s reputation for treating staff and colleagues warmly.
