Navigating island woes with Lee Jae-wook as the Doctor on the Edge

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but where’s the doctor to go if he’s stuck on an island? The latest teaser for the medical rom-com Doctor on the Edge has our titular doctor pondering the drawbacks of island life, until an upside surfaces and romantic sparks fly.
Lee Jae-wook (Last Summer) stars as our island doctor Do Ji-eui, a plastic surgery specialist who’s walked the elite course all his life. Then one day, he’s ~demoted~ reassigned to a post far out on an island, which is terrible news for someone with trauma related to the ocean.
The teaser begins by listing off the 3 things one ought to avoid on an island. First and foremost, other people — whether that means a whole slew of coughing patients, or a passing driver whose fancy car leaves Ji-eui quite literally in the dust. Next on the list are suspicious incidents, like the body washed up on the shore. Hmm, do we have a mystery afoot?
In any case, the last warning on the list is… love? Shin Ye-eun (The Murky Stream) steps into our hero’s life as the nurse Yook Ha-ri. With her own share of secrets, perhaps that’s why she left the mainland for this remote post. It isn’t long before Ji-eui begins to catch feelings, which means that not only does he go into a daze in front of a bewildered Ha-ri, but also that he becomes extra prickly in an attempt to deflect.
“I never asked you for help,” grumbles Ji-eui, earning himself an incredulous scoff from Ha-ri. “So don’t cross the line.” In response, Ha-ri counters that she isn’t crossing the line; she simply wants to lend Ji-eui a helping hand. One montage of cute moments later, and the teaser ends upon Ji-eui and Ha-ri sharing a pair of earphones on the pier, as if they’ve found comfort and connection on this little island.
Though we don’t see them in this teaser, the rest of our main cast is rounded out by Hong Min-ki (To My Beloved Thief), Lee Soo-kyung (When Life Gives You Tangerines), and Kim Yoon-woo (Gyeongseong Creature 1).
Directed by PD Lee Myung-woo (Boyhood, The Fiery Priest 1) with scripts penned by Kim Ji-soo (Pump Up the Healthy Love, Birthcare Center), the webtoon adaptation Doctor on the Edge is slated for a June 1 premiere after The Scarecrow concludes its run.
