New Bromance Series Removed From Popular Streaming Platform After Backlash

A popular streaming platform has removed a new series from its catalog after calls for its removal.

Wu is a Thai fantasy series that tells the story of an unlucky young man carrying a fragment of a demon’s soul. He crosses paths with a man with the power to alter fate, and the two become an unlikely team. Based on the description and poster, the series might seem like a BL (Boys’ Love) romance, but it’s actually a “bromance” friendship story.

However, up until now Wu was available to watch on GagaOOLala, a platform that built its reputation as a dedicated space for authentic LGBTQ+ storytelling, offering BL and GL series, films, and shorts with multi-language subtitles, often including content that mainstream platforms overlook or censor. Many users subscribe specifically for this focused curation — a “safe space” for queer narratives that don’t require dilution for broader audiences. As such, some viewers weren’t happy to see Wu, which was tagged as queer content, on the platform.

    Sixth day of asking @gagaoolala:

Why is Wu on your platform?

I remember when RL stopped airing mid-way, GagaOOLala gave us hope they wouldn’t air a butchered bromance version of RL since their platform is for queer shows only and they never released bromance content. Now you’re saying Wu will be the first bromance on GagaOOLala? GTFO!!!

As a person who has been exited to watch wu nope this isn’t being anti if it is not queer series then it shouldn’t be in platform which is specifically for queer shows and that’s respecting queer people

On April 30, GagaOOLala released a statement, announcing Wu‘s removal and apologizing to viewers who were looking forward to watching the show.

We want to say we hear and understand everyone who has expressed their concern. Thank you for your patience.

The decision has been praised by netizens who want the platform to remain a space for BL and GL content.

glad to see that queer voices were heard and a bromance series has no place on a bl/gl media app. i hope in the future the platform will be more careful with the series you decide to pick up to avoid such confusion after you have explicitly stated your positioning. https://t.co/aKpA4IsmGB

Thats why speaking up matters they will call it hate but lets be very clear their is no space for bromance from a country where there is no restrictions whatsoever keep queer spaces clear of promoting such media who only benefit from the queer spaces but give no representation https://t.co/OhStKqePRJ

Thank you GagaOOLala, believe me there will be more great queer series in the future. You’ve consistently stay true for who you are. Let’s not get trapped in gray area of queerbaitng, keep being rainbow ! 🌈🏳️‍🌈 https://t.co/nKf3NoRohd
