Reasons to watch: The mid-week KBS romance Okay Let’s Get Divorced is kicking off with Lee Min-jung and Kim Ji-suk starring as partners in life and business — who have had about enough of each other, but are tied together at work.
Seven years after a happy wedding, the pair is warring, but doing their best to maintain a tranquil image within the walls of the wedding dress brand they’ve built together. Lee managed the business while Kim led the designs, but now they’re at each other’s throats about who did more to make them a success. They’re blaming and taking personal credit at every turn, with hardly any self-reflection about their own contributions to the problems in their marriage.
But as we’ll come to learn, there’s a tragedy lurking under all that anger that just might be the reason they can’t look inward and face what’s there. And it has to do with losing a child a few years before. This is when all the funny fights turn to serious moments, with a rom-com tone that’ll veer into tearjerker.
With new and old love interests played by Lee Hyun-jin and Lee Jini, this drama promises to be a hit for anyone on the lookout for a love square – or just likes the cathartic “throw the ring in the river” moments of divorce stories. I have a hunch that this is also a keeper for Queen of Tears fans, but my main interest lies in Kim Ji-suk, who I haven’t sat down to watch in a drama in far, far too long.
