The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 11th that it has reported to the police four suspected cases of ticket scalping related to BTS concerts held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on the 21st of this month and at the Goyang Sports Complex from the 9th to 12th of next month.
After closely monitoring major online secondhand trading platforms, the ministry identified a total of 1,868 posts (including duplicates) related to scalped tickets, and among these, detected four cases involving 105 suspected scalped tickets, where multiple tickets for the same performance were being secured and sold at inflated prices.
The ministry emphasized that due to strict identity verification policies, even if scalped BTS tickets are purchased, actual attendance is practically impossible, urging concertgoers to exercise extra caution.
In particular, the ministry warned of a likely surge in scalped ticket postings and related fraud around 8 p.m. on the 12th, when additional ticket sales for BTS’s comeback concert in Gwanghwamun are set to begin, calling on event organizers, ticketing agencies, and platform operators to enforce stringent management and supervision.
Minister Choi Hui Young stated, “Starting with this investigation request, we will continue unwavering and rigorous measures until scalping is eradicated to foster a fair concert-going culture. Since actual transfer and use of scalped tickets are impossible, and buyers risk fraud such as sellers disappearing, tickets must be purchased only through official channels.”
