In the latest episode of MBC‘s The Manager (also known as Point of Omniscient Interfere or Omniscient Interfering View), actress Lee Elijah—now best known for her appearance on Miss Trot—revealed that she almost debuted as a K-Pop idol!

During the episode, Lee Elijah explained why she decided to take on trot music, saying, “I learned classical vocal music when I was in third grade.” Revealing she was formerly part of a KBS children’s choir, the actress also mentioned, “I pursued music until high school, but I had to stop due to vocal cord nodules. This is a case of me trying again after that,” explaining her Miss Trot endeavors.
My mother is also a big fan of Miss Trot, and since I also enjoy songs from her generation, I ultimately decided to appear on the program.

But Miss Trot wasn’t her first shot at a performing career. Lee Elijah revealed that she had previously caught the attention of major agencies, including SM Entertainment and Big Hit.
I was actually scouted quite often on the street when I was in high school. I received business cards from both SM Entertainment and Big Hit. I even had an in-person meeting with Chairman Bang Si Hyuk at the time!

When asked why she didn’t pursue a K-Pop idol career, though, she explained, “My parents told me to go to college first. Once I stepped away, it wasn’t easy to go back.”
