Recently, a Mexican entertainment news program has sparked controversy with comments that appear to criticize BTS and their fandom, ARMY.

According to the social media accounts of Mexico’s Multimedia Channel 6 (Canal 6), the program aired last month featuring a discussion about ticket prices and sellouts surrounding BTS’s Mexico City world tour.

During this process, some hosts made remarks about the BTS fans.

Panelist Yvonne Chavez stated, “In Mexico, the price of international singers’ concerts has doubled or tripled in the past. Shakira’s concert was no exception.”

Luisa Fernanda added, “If Shakira comes back, the same thing will happen. There are people who go back even after seeing her. They’re being overcharged, and they go back again. This is the level of the competition.”

The topic changed to BTS, and guest Fabian Lvalle stated, “If I had a 17-year-old daughter, I wouldn’t let her go to the concert. I’d make her do her homework at home. This isn’t the time to be crying and complaining over performances by unknown singers.”

In response, Chavez stated, “Don’t belittle the dreams of young people so carelessly. For many children, seeing BTS in person is a big dream.” However, Fernanda further fueled controversy by responding, “I bet half of the fans didn’t even finish elementary school. Aren’t they the ones who want to see the concert?”

Immediately after the broadcast, criticism poured on social media with BTS fans responding with videos and posts revealing their educational backgrounds and occupations. Professionals such as engineers, doctors, vets, and lawyers refuted the hosts’ claims by revealing their master’s and doctoral degrees.

Fans criticized the claims, stating, “Thanks to BTS RM’s advice, I didn’t give up on my studies,” and “What are the hosts actually contributing to society when they keep talking about elementary school?”

Meanwhile, BTS is scheduled to perform at the GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City on May 7, 9, and 10. Also, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum even requested the South Korean President to hold an additional BTS concert in May.
