Reasons to watch: Healing and sea breezes are in the air for the newest MBN+ drama, Azure Spring. Starring Yeri and Kang Sang-joon, the pair will be playing two people who unexpectedly find love after adversity.
Yeri plays a talented swimmer whose career comes to a crashing halt due to an injury that leaves her unable to swim at a competitive level. Until that point, her entire life and the future she had planned, revolved around swimming. Without swimming, she’s at a complete loss, and she decides to head back to her roots, more specifically her mother’s hometown on an island off the Korean coast. It’s there that she meets the mysterious Kang Sang-joon. He works as a haenam (a free diver who harvests seafood) and that’s practically all anyone knows about him. His refusal to speak even a word about himself is entirely intentional, as the only reason he’s on the island is because he’s attempting to outrun his past.
Yeri and Kang end up having to live as roommates (island housing shortage?), and then as colleagues as he agrees to initiate her into the world of free diving. A deep trust grows between them, and before long that trust turns into something romantic.
This healing romance will be both visually beautiful as well as moving, with story beats around rediscovering meaning in life and finding community. Azure Spring is aiming to show us that no matter what may have happened in your past, or what may happen in your future, there’s always a way forward.
