“Scared” — BIGBANG’s Taeyang Doesn’t Hold Back On His Thoughts About Daesung’s Legendary Coachella Performance

BIGBANG’s Taeyang spilled behind-the-scenes stories about the group’s performances at Coachella, especially fellow member Daesung’s legendary stage.

On May 19, the Psick Univ YouTube channel released a video titled “Asking Taeyang if he missed you all too much.”

Earlier, BIGBANG, the group Taeyang belongs to, attracted attention by performing at the world’s largest music festival, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, held in April.

When asked, “How was Coachella?” Taeyang answered, “It was incredible. I never imagined there would be that many people in the audience. There were so many fans, and they waited a long time. When we stood on stage, the cheers were overwhelming. Our first song was ‘Bang Bang Bang,’ and the fans sang along in unison. Hearing their chorus made me think, ‘We’ve made it.’”

Yong Ju asked, “Your solo stage was a hit with ‘Ringa Linga.’ It was a perfect performance, but isn’t it a bit surprising to pick ‘Ringa Linga’ as you have many hit songs? Why did you choose that one?” Taeyang explained, “I spent a lot of time creating the setlist. There are many solo songs, but since it was Coachella, I wanted something that would hype up the mood, so I decided on ‘Ringa Linga.’ It really was a great choice.”

Daesung’s performance of “Look At Me, Gwisun” during his solo stage also became a big topic. When Yong Ju asked, “What did you think about that performance?” Taeyang said, “As I mentioned before, G-Dragon has many upbeat songs, and I have one too, but Daesung… I thought he might do trot music, but I was a little scared, wondering ‘Is this okay?’ because it’s Coachella. I told him, ‘Daesung, let’s rethink this.’ But Daesung was full of confidence. He said, ‘Who else at Coachella could do trot? I can do it.’ Honestly, I couldn’t say no because I was worried it might hurt his feelings. But Daesung didn’t doubt himself at all. He just said, ‘This is who I am.’”

Yong Ju emphasized, “Even Seol Woon Ah, Tae Jin Ah, and Lim Young Woong couldn’t sing trot at Coachella, but Daesung did.” When Kim Min Su added, “At that moment, I felt a surge of patriotism inside me,” Taeyang said, “Actually, many foreign fans were shocked there because they had never heard that genre of music. In the end, they fell in love with it.”
