The second half of our show kicks off with our OTP’s dating era, and a workplace romance has never been so fun. But insecurities arise in the form of their exes, and it’s up to them to tackle this challenge.
EPISODES 7-8
Ji-yoon and Shi-woo’s dating era begins with good morning texts, silly smiles, extra skincare, and Ji-yoon selecting pretty clothes for their first day as a secret office couple. But dating a workaholic is hard, and Ji-yoon barely gets to see her boyfriend even though they’re on the same team. Shi-woo makes it up to his girlfriend by taking her out on a weekend date — where they run into No-ah and Jae-in who are in a tutor-ship. No-ah wants all the tea, and Ji-yoon is happy to serve it piping hot. But judging by Shi-woo’s self-deprecating reaction and comments, it’s clear he thinks Ji-yoon can do much better than him.
Shi-woo legit believes his divorce is a flaw and that Ji-yoon is too good for him. But he and Ji-yoon are so cute together, so we’ll ignore his insecurities. For now. In the meantime, we’ll chuckle when he forgets the “secret” part of the office dating and gets cutleries for only Ji-yoon despite the rest of the team being seated at the same lunch table. And laugh when he pulls only her out of the packed elevator. And swoon when he invites her to his place for dinner so they can enjoy each other’s company. And absolutely combust when late night snacks at her place ends with a steamy make out session in the bathroom. Yum.
Unfortunately, steamy make out sessions cannot compensate for the most fundamental problem in Shi-woo and Ji-yoon’s relationship: their exes! Ga-eul returns to the picture when their college band reunites to rehearse for Hye-ji’s wedding. Shi-woo sees Ga-eul when he drops Ji-yoon off at band practice and it bothers him. But he doesn’t bring it up because he knows there’s nothing between Ji-yoon and Ga-eul. Absolutely nothing! Ji-yoon even has to tell Ga-eul about her relationship with Shi-woo because that dense guy cannot take a hint even if it slaps him across the face. Shi-woo and Ji-yoon eventually have a conversation about their exes, and he assures her that he has no feelings whatsoever left for Soo-jin.
But Ji-yoon is very much bothered by Shi-woo’s work interactions with Soo-jin, and her last straw is when she sees Soo-jin in his car after work. Ji-yoon is upset that Shi-woo doesn’t bring up this meeting when she asks. But she’s the same person who didn’t tell him that Ga-eul was at band practice. Anyway, Ji-yoon confronts Shi-woo, and he admits that Soo-jin was there to ask him for a favor. Apparently, her mom has dementia and keeps asking for him, so she wanted him to say a final goodbye to her mom. But he turned down her request which is why he didn’t see a need to tell Ji-yoon. Ji-yoon is uncomfortable with the idea, but she knows if it were the other way around, Shi-woo will tell her to go see her ex’s mom. So she permits him to say goodbye to Soo-jin’s mom on the condition that there will be no next time.
Shi-woo visits Soo-jin’s mom, and we learn that she and his late mom were besties. Oh wow! Soo-jin’s mom collapses after the visit and this makes Shi-woo late to Hye-ji’s wedding. Earlier on, Hye-ji slipped up to Ga-eul that Shi-woo is divorced, and Ga-eul tells Ji-yoon at the wedding to stop seeing Shi-woo. Ha! The GA in Ga-eul stands for Gaddamn Audacious! Ji-yoon puts Ga-eul’s disrespectful ass in his place and then walks out with Shi-woo. But a few minutes prior, Ki-taek texted her a picture of Shi-woo and Soo-jin’s wedding that he found online. And though Ji-yoon is fully aware that the picture is old, she can’t take the whole thing with Soo-jin anymore so she walks away. From Shi-woo? From the relationship? From common sense? We shall find out next week.
Sigh. This is why Shi-woo was going to swallow his feelings and not ask Ji-yoon out in the first place. She knew he was previously married to someone who also works in their company, and she claimed to be fine with it. But now she suddenly can’t “bear the weight of his past?” *rolls eyes* I hate how Shi-woo considers himself flawed and keeps apologizing for being divorced like it’s some heinous crime. And I hate that Ji-yoon is being insecure and overthinking Shi-woo’s relationship with his happily married ex-wife. Then again, she probably inherited this self-sabotaging attitude from her dad — who tried to avoid conflict with his wife, only to end up avoiding her entirely. But now Dad has fractured his leg and Mom has taken to aggressive caregiving rather than the separation she initially asked for. So hopefully, they turn this crisis into an opportunity to work on their marriage.
I’m going to need Ji-yoon and Shi-woo to sort out their relationship problems fast before it affects their work, because the TF team is in danger. The team reports directly to Saeum’s president, HAN YOO-JIN (Kim Jung-young). But Director NOH JIN CHEOL (Kim Hak-sun), is trying to sabotage them — and President Han by extension. As Director Noh’s minion, Young-sam dangles a senior associate promotion in Ki-taek’s face if he finds Shi-woo’s weakness. And we are still waiting on Ki-taek’s decision after finding out about Shi-woo and Soo-jin’s marriage.
Unsurprisingly, Director Noh can’t fully rely on the incompetent Young-sam, so he recruits the TF team’s newest member, LEE YOUNG-HUN (Yang Byung-yeol), to plant a software bug in their Home-AI project. Aigoo! What’s with Director Noh and his “Young” minions? Young-hun is the employee who took a mental health break after Shi-woo’s intervention, and I sincerely hope his plan is to double cross Director Noh. Because it’ll be a real shame for him to sabotage the team for real after everything Shi-woo did for him. As for No-ah, my good sis is living her best life. She’s in an official relationship with Jae-in on her own terms, and her remotely controlled cooktop idea is going into development at work! Fingers crossed it gets to the official launch stage without any major issues.
