It is the return of the ajusshis in MBC’s action-comedy Fifties Professionals. Starring Shin Ha-kyun (The Auditors), Oh Jung-se (We Are All Trying Here ), and Heo Sung-tae (Phantom Lawyer), our trio may look average now, but in their prime, they once reached the top of their respective fields. However, after “that day,” they all end up on the remote island of Yeongseon, and ten years later, they finally search for the truth.

Jung Ho-myung (Shin Ha-kyun) used to be the number one National Intelligence Service (NIS) agent until he got framed during a mission. After leaving the NIS, he became the head chef of a Chinese restaurant but hopes to clear his name by finding a specific object. Outside of his secret name-clearing hobby, Ho-myung is just your ordinary father and husband to wife Shin Dong-mi (A Hundred Memories).

Having an even worse time than our ex-agent is the North Korean spy Bong Jae-soon (Oh Jung-se). Once known as a legendary human weapon, Jae-soon lost his memory after an accident while on a mission and has not gotten them back for the last ten years. Now his only enemy is his bossy superior at work, but what will happen to the mild-mannered Jae-soon when he learns who he really is?

Last but not least, Kang Bum-ryong (Heo Sung-tae) was the number two of the Hwasan gang, and chased after Ho-myung to avenge their leader Kim Byung-ok (Who Is She). However, he spends the next ten years running a convenience store while hiding his true identity. At this point, making sure the business flourishes is more important than revenge for the gangster, and his loyal subordinate Lee Hak-joo (Boyfriend on Demand) is tired of living as a part-time convenience store employee.

Joining our three ajusshis is Kim Shin-rok (Tastefully Yours) as criminal division prosecutor Kang Young-ae. She loves her job, and while others might mistake her zealousness for righteousness, Young-ae is willing to do anything to solve a case. Also in the cast are Han Ji-eun (When the Stars Gossip) as the upright officer Park Mi-kyung who happens to be a regular at Bum-ryong’s store, Kim Sang-kyung (Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist 2) sporting silver locks as mayoral candidate Han Kyung-wook, Kim Sang-ho (Shin’s Project) as Ho-myung’s boss and NIS team leader Jo Sung-won, Hyun Bong-shik (Mad Concrete Dreams) as the revenge-seeking Yoo In-goo.

Directed by PD Han Dong-hwa (Shadow Detective 1 & 2, Navillera) with scripts penned by Jang Won-seop, MBC’s Fifties Professionals is slated for twelve episodes and airs May 22.
