Shin Ha-kyun stands with Fifties Professionals Oh Jung-se, Heo Sung-tae

    by tccolb

As we approach closer to D-day, a new teaser and stills have dropped on MBC’s action-comedy Fifties Professionals, re-igniting the fire in the three seemingly ordinary neighborhood ajusshis: Shin Ha-kyun (The Auditors), Oh Jung-se (We Are All Trying Here), and Heo Sung-tae (Phantom Lawyer).

The story begins a decade in the past, when our trio first crossed paths on a stormy night in Yeong-seon Island. NIS (National Intelligence Service) agent Jung Ho-myung (Shin Ha-kyun) had thought then that his mission would be over quick. But something of course went awry. Now 10 years later, he’s still waiting on the island and he has since become a local Joe, getting married and running a restaurant with his wife and family.

Similarly, the Hwasan gang’s number two Kang Bum-ryong (Heo Sung-tae) has been hiding out as a convenience store owner, much to the chagrin of his restless underling and reluctant store part-timer Lee Hak-joo (Boyfriend on Demand). All the while, steelworker Bong Jae-soon (Oh Jung-se) remains perplexed about his life. Because after that fateful day 10 years in the past, Jae-soon lost all his memories and doesn’t know that he’s actually a North Korean special ops spy.

However, with the re-appearance of baddie politician Kim Sang-kyung (Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist), the trio’s hiatus period is about to come to an end. And the campy villain team is joined by chaebol chairman Kwon Yul (The Winning Try) as well as Bum-ryong’s rival gang boss Hyun Bong-shik (Mad Concrete Dreams).

Although age may have taken its toll in the 10 years that have passed, our frenemy heroes will be proving that they still have the moves. And it looks like prosecutor Kim Shin-rok (Tastefully Yours) may be a helpful ally on their side. The teaser’s sequence then ends on Ho-myung’s resolve to ensure that his mission is completed without a hitch.

Also starring Ho-myung’s wife Shin Dong-mi (Sold Out on You), local police officer Han Ji-eun (Study Group), and NIS team lead Kim Sang-ho (Typhoon Family) among other talents, MBC’s upcoming Fifties Professionals will be landing on our screens on May 22 next week. Airing on weekends following Perfect Crown, production for the series has PD Han Dong-hwa (Shadow Detective, Navillera) at the helm with scripts penned by Jang Won-seop.
