Super Junior‘s Siwon has issued an apology to fans following backlash over a recent political controversy.

    Siwon | SM Entertainment

In February, the idol sparked criticism after posting a controversial Instagram story related to former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol and his prison sentence. The post quickly drew negative reactions from both Korean netizens and even Super Junior fans.

As criticism spread, several fans claimed Siwon blocked their accounts after they spoke out against the post. Later, SM Entertainment shared a statement warning that it would take strong legal action against those spreading malicious comments regarding Siwon.

The move angered some fans, who felt the warning targeted the fandom itself.

Almost a month later, Siwon shared an apology on the paid fan-communication app Bubble.

Recently, I’ve been thinking about many things, and I wanted to carefully share how I feel with all of you, the fans.

I’m truly sorry for causing concern because of what happened recently.

I still have a lot to improve on, but I will try to think more about the team and show a more responsible side of myself.

I’m always grateful, and I’m sorry.

Despite the message, many fans reacted coldly, criticizing the apology as vague and insufficient while continuing to express frustration over the situation.

After threatening to sue his own fanbase for critiquing him, SIWON posts a vague paywalled apology on Bubble that does not properly acknowledge the years of his scandals that have ruined SuJu’s reputation, or the hurt they have caused fans who criticise him. #SIWON_OUT pic.twitter.com/2YJgX9mcJ3
