Ah, Dignity. I’ve reviewed a song of theirs once a year since 2024. The overall arc of their ratings has not been favorable, though they still boast one of the most unexpectedly great buried treasures to their name. New single Slipshot does little to reignite any spark I might have felt about their debut era.
To put it simply, Slipshot is a copy of a copy of a copy. It borrows various elements from K-pop’s boy group soundscape, crafting a hodgepodge of tropes that is relatively solid but utterly unneeded. We’ve got the swaggering chant of a chorus, a few hits of glossy pop-funk and quite a few NCTisms packed into the instrumental. At its best, there are moments that recall early Seventeen b-sides. However, the overriding takeaway I have after listening to the song is the word “slipshot!” chanted over and over with no real purpose.
