Star Couple’s “Divorce” A Day After Their Wedding Faces Massive Backlash

As Long Term Relationship, the flagship content of Shortbox, concluded with a wedding ceremony, reactions have been mixed.

On the 1st, Kim Won Hoon and Eom Ji Yoon held a wedding under the popular YouTube channel Shortbox’s series concept Long Term Relationship.

The event, held at a wedding hall in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, was attended by about 150 subscribers as guests, with Lee Soo Geun serving as the MC. Paul Kim, Jung Seung Hwan, and Heize performed celebratory songs, while Yoo Jae Suk, Shin Dong Yup, and LE SSERAFIM sent congratulatory videos to offer their support.

The atmosphere on-site was as authentic as a real wedding. RalRal appeared as Kim Won Hoon’s mother, Jo Jin Se played Eom Ji Yoon’s sister, and the couple’s witty vows brought laughter. However, it was not an actual wedding but content marking the finale of the Long Term Relationship series.

Reactions to the event were clearly divided. Some said, “Since Long Term Relationship is a series about a couple’s prolonged story, ending with a wedding isn’t strange,” “It’s no different from a drama where a long-term couple inevitably ends with marriage,” “It’s the flagship corner that essentially boosted Shortbox, so this kind of event is justified,” and “It’s even more meaningful since it culminated together with the subscribers.”

Indeed, Long Term Relationship has been the flagship series of Shortbox. For viewers who have followed the relationship and world-building of the two for a long time, this wedding felt less like a prank and more like an episode wrapping up a lengthy narrative. The fact that actual subscribers attended as guests further enhanced this atmosphere.

On the other hand, there were many reactions saying, “I understand it’s content, but it feels a bit excessive,” “I get the concept of marriage under the long-term relationship, but making it like a real wedding is confusing,” “People who don’t know might think it’s genuine,” “It’s uncomfortable that Kim Won Hoon, a married man, participated in this kind of setup,” and “His wife must be very understanding.” Because the wedding hall, MC, celebratory songs, and guest lineup were all arranged like a real wedding, many felt it was different from a drama. In reality, Kim Won Hoon is a married man who wed a non-celebrity after eight years of dating in August 2022.

The day after the wedding, Kim Won Hoon commented “We divorced today” under Paul Kim’s congratulatory message, which some saw as a witty conclusion, while others felt it treated marriage and divorce too lightly, generating further divided responses.

Celebrities often draw attention by showing romantic tension on broadcasts or in content, sometimes called “flirting for business.” However, since a “fake wedding” is rare, this likely explains the mixed reactions.
