Bang Chan has recently faced backlash for his behavior online.

Amid the messages, accounts have shared recent posts from the idol, specifying the message where it says, “Imma just focus on Y/N,” and criticized it due to the connotations of the phrase, which is used to mean “Your name.” The phrase is commonly used in fandoms as a way of allowing netizens to put their own name into the context.

[🚨] After Bangchan fighting with fans, he appeared even cornier by saying “i mma should focus on Y/N,” referring to his fans and calling them out for setting him up. pic.twitter.com/7YnwRUa7K6

he’s so ₹(&?#!? Never seen any idol so invested in fanwars and then say “imma just focus on y/n” to his 15yo fans 😭😭 pic.twitter.com/F3MCDhLzTN

The viral posts sparked serious criticism and backlash against the idol.

Over the past few years, he has shown many signs of narcissistic and manipulative behavior, creating issues and then acting like he’s the victim or like he’s beating himself up over it, it’s very concerning knowing that he has a lot of fans. Let’s hope he gets the help needed. 😁 pic.twitter.com/RZ1sfwlTDf

Yet, many netizens quickly defended Bang Chan, explaining that the “Y/N” feature was due to Bubble and that when it’s sent to fans, it changes to the username.

y’all don’t know how bubble works and it SHOWS 😭 on bubble there’s a feature that inserts the user’s name on their device when the idol types the prompt and sends it. the bubble translation twitters just translate it as Y/N because it makes the most sense https://t.co/Fh5aSjNin7

im not a stay but im pretty sure that is a function of bubble, the idol themselves write y/n and for every fan it appears as their own name. the fans enter their name during subscription and the app changes the y/n to their name when they get the message
