The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) announced that the Philippine government will implement extensive on-site safety measures to enhance the safety and convenience of Korean tourists.

This policy was promoted following high-level tourism talks between the two countries during the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2026 held in Cebu. Its core components include operating Korean-speaking tourism police, improving emergency response systems, and expanding tourist support infrastructure.

Korean-speaking tourism police will be prioritized in major tourist destinations with high Korean visitor demand, such as Cebu, Boracay, Palawan, Bohol, Davao, and Clark. These areas were selected based on international accessibility and the concentration of resort and leisure facilities.

Additionally, Korean-speaking counselors will be stationed at tourist support call centers to provide real-time assistance for various inquiries and emergencies during travel.

The Philippine government explained that these extensive safety measures are a strategic decision to protect Korean tourists, one of the largest inbound markets. The focus of tourism policy aims not merely to increase visitor numbers but to enhance the quality of travel experiences.

In particular, recognizing that proactive measures for tourist safety are key to qualitative growth, foreign language training for tourism police is being conducted and expansion to other major market languages is under consideration.
