Top Japanese actress Ryoko Yonekura has been referred to prosecutors over allegations of illegal drug use.
According to major Japanese media outlets on January 20, 2026, Yonekura was recently sent to prosecutors on paperwork on suspicion of violating Japan’s drug control laws, among other charges.
Previously, in June of last year, the Kanto–Shinetsu Regional Bureau of Health and Welfare’s Narcotics Control Department received a tip alleging that Yonekura had used drugs with a man identified as A, an Argentine national. Authorities conducted a preliminary investigation and, during a search of her residence in Tokyo, seized substances suspected to be drugs.
A is currently no longer in Japan, and authorities are reportedly continuing their investigation to determine the actual owner of the drugs secured during the home search.
Regarding the matter, Yonekura released a statement.
“It is true that investigative authorities conducted a search of my home, as reported in some media outlets.”
She added that she would continue to cooperate with the investigation, but that she believed the matter had been brought to a close based on her cooperation thus far. The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, which has received the case materials, is expected to carefully review and decide on any further action.
Yonekura Ryoko was born in 1975 and is currently 50 years old. Her notable works include Love Revolution (2001), Beauty or Beast (2002), Black Leather Notebook (2004), The Road of the Beast (2006), and Doctor-X: Surgeon Michiko Daimon (2012).
