A heated scene from the 2026 thriller Notes from the Last Row has sent K-Drama fans into a frenzy.
The series stars Choi Hyun Wook (24) and veteran actress Jin Kyung (54), who play Lee Kang and Jo Hyeon Suk respectively.
In the show, their characters’ dynamic is rooted in a deeply unsettling power inversion: Choi’s character is a mysterious engineering student whose writing talent becomes an obsession for his literature professor, with Jin Kyung playing the professor’s wife.
It’s a deliberately uncomfortable story, and the show isn’t shy about that.
So when a steamy makeout scene between the two characters went viral on X, the reactions were… predictably divided.

One side of the internet found the 30-year age gap between the actors deeply unsettling, with many expressing that the intimate scene crossed a line they weren’t prepared for. Some even dropped the drama from their watchlists entirely.
No hate to either actor they’re professionals. I just personally find a 30-year age gap in intimate scenes uncomfortable to watch.

But critics of the backlash were quick to point out the glaring double standard. For decades, male actors have shared romantic and intimate scenes with actresses young enough to be their daughters, often without a single raised eyebrow.
Coming back to this just to say…there are sooo many dramas with much MUCH older men being paired with a 20 something year old actress and no one makes a peep but the minute it’s the opposite you got your pitchforks ready…you are a VICTIM https://t.co/4qbX1PL0tl

Others defended the scene on purely narrative grounds: the discomfort is the point. Notes from the Last Row is a thriller built on obsession, manipulation, and moral ambiguity. A steamy, unsettling scene between two characters in a toxic dynamic isn’t unexpected.
why is everyone overreacting?? they’re just doing their job wtf, “oh but the 30y age gap” they’re not dating irl IT’S JUST ACTING omg are you guys 12? https://t.co/rTdYv9yxn9

Whether the controversy helps or hurts the show’s viewership remains to be seen.
