Recently, MBC’s variety show I Live Alone released a video featuring Girls’ Generation (also known as SNSD) member Yuri’s life in Jeju.
In the video, Yuri starts her day diligently at 3 a.m., enjoying sunrise yoga on the beach. She explained her unique Jeju lifestyle, saying, “I woke up before sunrise to make the most of my day. I wanted to do sunrise yoga by the beach at dawn,” adding, “I slowly wake up by communicating with my body.”
After the yoga, she moved around in a green van she personally remodeled. Yuri shared her travel philosophy and outlook on life, saying, “(The van) is uncomfortable, but I don’t think you can gain anything special easily.”
During breakfast, which began with salad, she surprised viewers by devouring instant noodles and bread, joking, “It tasted more like kimchi than salad,” and added, “After finishing everything, I refilled everything,” showing her down-to-earth side. Later, she even took a leisurely nap inside the van, revealing a warm and genuine charm.
Though the video was met with positive comments such as “It’s good to see her happy,” and “She looks healthy and pretty,” some netizens responded coldly, calling it “showy.” Especially, her lifestyle immersed in nature and yoga reminded many of Lee Hyori, leading to comments labeling her as a “copycat of Lee Hyori.”
As the controversy continued, a netizen claiming to be a close acquaintance of Yuri, identified as A, left a comment to clarify. A wrote, “Haven’t you met Yuri personally? She’s not the type to show off. I’ve met her several times. She’s truly an amazing person,” strongly defending her and correcting misunderstandings. However, A’s exact identity has not been confirmed.
Meanwhile, after 19 years since her debut, Yuri ended her exclusive contract with SM Entertainment and formed the unit Hyorisoo with Hyoyeon and Sooyoung, continuing her activities. Her sincere daily life in Jeju has drawn diverse attention from the public.
