Shin Dong Yup who once had a huge debt, gave life advice to Jay Park.
On February 19, a video featuring Shin Dong Yup was uploaded to Jay Park’s YouTube channel.
Hesitantly, Jay Park asked Shin Dong Yup, “My mother told me to definitely ask you because you were appearing. She said, ‘Shin Dong Yup has been badly scammed and deeply in debt. Ask him how he overcame that.’”
Shin Dong Yup replied, “You want me to talk about that with a clear head?” He empathized by saying, “Adults can definitely go through those things. You need to listen carefully to such stories so that you never ends up in the same situation.”
Jay Park expressed his respect, saying, “I think everyone knows, but it’s not easy to stay active as an entertainer for this long.” Shin Dong Yup added, “I sometimes say, ‘Eventually everything will get exposed.’ Only those who know realize how different things are when the cameras aren’t on. Even if people pretend not to notice, in the end, the public finds out everything.”
In response to Jay Park saying his mother is simple, Shin Dong Yup advised, “People should be that simple. Sometimes you meet people you just can’t figure out. Those are the ones you should be careful with and keep at a distance. I’d say avoid people who are only superficially kind or those who talk about money. That has nothing to do with how long you’ve known them.”
Previously, Shin Dong Yup revealed that he took on a debt of ₩10.0 billion KRW (about $6.90 million USD) after making a bad guarantee. Last February, Shin Dong Yup’s wife, producer Sun Hye Yoon, said, “My husband got a debt of ₩10.0 billion KRW (about $6.90 million USD) from a business investment. At that time, I was very young. Since we had just had our second child, if he had said, ‘I have a debt of ₩1.00 billion KRW (about $690,000 USD),’ I might have reacted strongly, but the amount was so huge I couldn’t really grasp it.”
She continued, “I’m the kind of person who needs a Plan C. I thought if we sold everything we had, we could pay off the debt. Since I have a salary, I thought I could support the four of us, and my husband wouldn’t slack off. We could just start over. When I did the math then, I saw a plan could work.”
