Episode count: 16
Global streamer: Netflix
Reasons to watch: Set in the 1990s at the height of the Asian Financial Crisis, Park Shin-hye takes on the role of a securities supervisor at Korea’s financial regulatory agency. Though she’s spent years building a career worth being proud of, when she gets roped into a secret investigation, she finds herself joining a shady securities firm as its newest, lowest-ranking employee.
Though suspicions around the firm’s financial dealings are intense, authorities need concrete evidence in order to act. And so, Miss Hong is on the case to ferret out clues and proof of misdeeds. Secrecy is of the utmost importance, so when two men from Park Shin-hye’s past pop up as employees of the firm, it seems the whole operation is destined to fail.
But Park is nothing if not determined, and she bluffs her way through a number of tricky situations while putting on her detective cap whenever possible. Go Kyung-pyo is the newly-appointed CEO of the securities firm–and Park’s ex-boyfriend. (Unfortunately, he’s not pictured as he missed the press conference due to health issues.) Jo Han-gyeol is the other man with a past connection, but details will be revealed during the show run. Ha Yoon-kyung rounds out the main cast as Go Kyung-po’s executive assistant and Miss Hong’s main source of in-office troubles.
Tune in for a character-driven, genre-blending show that will attempt to bring together mystery and humor in an unusual office setting. I will pretty much always tune in for a Park Shin-hye drama, but the creative team is another must-watch element for me. When you have the director of Business Proposal, Park Sun-ho, with the writer of Memorials, Moon Hyun-kyung, it’s hard not to get excited and curious.
