K-Pop soloist and actress IU looked back on her very first encounter with comedian Park Myung Soo and shared the hilarious story behind why he has been apologizing to her for the past two decades.

In the latest episode of Pinggyego, show host Yoo Jae Suk welcomed IU and Byeon Woo Seok from the upcoming K-Drama Perfect Crown as guests. At one point, he mentioned that he and his Infinite Challenge co-stars, including Park Myung Soo, met IU back in 2009.

Yoo Jae Suk explained, “Back when we were filming Infinite Challenge, during the 2009 duet song festival, Jessica and Myung Soo hyung performed ‘Naengmyeon,’ which became very popular.”

After that, Myung Soo had to perform on another stage (the 2010 guerrilla concert special), but Jessica couldn’t attend due to her busy schedule. That’s when IU came in as a guest to sing Jessica’s part.

According to Yoo Jae Suk, the first interaction between Park Myung Soo and IU was rather harsh—but he was impressed by how the then-rookie IU didn’t lose her cool. IU agreed that she has never been the type to get easily shaken up and playfully added that Park Myung Soo has been apologizing to her about it for every single year that followed!
Yoo Jae Suk: So Myung Soo hyung was like, “Who is that? Bring Jessica! Bring Jessica!” And IU was only 17 at the time, so I thought she might have been hurt. But when I looked at IU, she just had this expression like, “Yeah, whatever. It happens.” And she didn’t lose her confidence at all. That moment has stayed with me.
IU: I mean, even when I was younger, I wasn’t really the type to get discouraged easily.
Yoo Jae Suk: Since then, Myung Soo hyung apologizes every time he sees IU.
IU: Yeah. He’s been apologizing for nearly 20 years now. Park Myung Soo is such a kind person.
Now, IU and Park Myung Soo are well known to be close friends!
