News of former NCT member Winwin‘s contract termination broke this week, and it didn’t take long for his post-SM activities to become a hot topic.

A post on TheQoo sharing photos of the idol-actor’s latest role in a Chinese historical drama is drawing backlash from Korean netizens due to his outfit.
In the stills, Winwin wears an outfit featuring a manggeon (traditional Korean headband) and a dongjeong (the white collar strip attached to hanbok), paired with a flowing lower garment many claim is unmistakably hanbok-style.
Netizens also pointed out that Winwin seemingly wore the same look during promotional appearances for the show, not just on set.

- “Oh…”
- “Who is it?”
- “It’s bizarre beyond belief.”
- “The puffed-up hairstyle is hilarious. LOL.”
- “The manggeon (traditional Korean headband) covering the forehead is Korean, and attaching a dongjeong (the white collar strip on traditional Korean clothing) to the collar is also Korean. So why go this far…? The lower half of the outfit is obviously a hanbok anyway…”
- “This is basically a full-on Northeast Project outfit. They keep doing this, and people overseas end up believing China’s claims. That’s what’s so scary about propaganda. It gradually conditions people.”
- “This is exactly why I hate it when Chinese idols promote in Korea, then leave (‘pull a doolgi‘) and become actors. Chinese actors operate under the premise of the Northeast Project.”
