Would You Rather #70
by DaebakGrits
In dramaland, leading ladies often find themselves torn between the love of two equally attractive men — a choice none of us would want to make! But what if you did have to pick between the frustrating lawyer and the adorkable police officer? In this feature, we ask you to make the difficult decisions — and we aren’t limiting our options to dreamy oppas.
Vote via the poll and feel free to use the comments to explain exactly how you were able to choose! So, Beanies:
WOULD YOU RATHER #69 RESULTS
Another month has come and gone, which means it’s time to break down the results of March’s Would You Rather poll. This time, we matched up the classic rom-com love triangle against the idea of a drama packed with multiple ships — as in relationships, not naval ones, @lordcobol and @ghostoftim (lol). The Beanies made their preference loud and clear: a decisive 82% voted for a drama featuring an abundance of romantic pairings. The comments echoed that sentiment, with 100% of respondents favoring what @redfox dubbed a “fleet” of ships to swoon over. As @unaspirated noted, having multiple pairings also allows for more flexibility in portraying love across different stages of relationships.
It wasn’t much of a contest. Love triangles have become nearly universally unpopular. At best, they leave viewers torn — like @asianromance — when both options for the lead are appealing and one inevitably loses out. More often, though, they devolve into what @gikata describes as a “third wheel” scenario, where a second lead wedges themselves into the main plot and central couple, testing the audience’s patience. In the end, love triangles tend to leave viewers feeling, as @kurama put it, frustrated and annoyed.
Hopefully the drama gods are listening and will give us fewer love triangles and more dramas overflowing with cute pairings to squee over!
