COMPLETED
To My Beloved Thief – What an extremely well-written show – not just the script but also the dialogue. Sageuk dialogues, esp. romantic ones, can be quite corny but they got the balance right here. Yeol’s consistent quips probably helped. Loved that the leads consistently chose calmness, rationality, and the best way forward for everyone over noble idiocy and needless drama.
ONGOING
No Tail to Tell – It’s really following the usual fantasy k-drama blueprint – where 50% of the dialogue is about fate/ destiny/ meant-to-be 🙄. The plot is so badly paced that they’re going to have to rush through like 2 lifetimes worth of drama in the finale this weekend.
Undercover Miss Hong – Albert being Captain actually surprised me. Love the expanding heist crew – the way Hong was pulling scam ideas out of old FSS training materials was hilarious.
Our Universe – Almost rage-quit over the way they’ve written the absolutely useless FL and annoying SML and then they added criminal Grandpa to the mix. It felt so wrong to see that man with the baby. Way to ruin a drama.
WATCHLIST
The Practical Guide to Love – Given that it’s a love triangle, it’d have been an automatic miss for me if not for Han Ji-min and Park Sung-hoon. Keeping my fingers crossed and my eyes on the exit.
C-DRAMAS
Unveil: Jadewind – On the one hand, I stayed engaged till the end. On the other hand, all the cases ultimately had little to no bearing on the larger arc and consistently (frustratingly) ended in murders or suicides 🤷♀️. I’m going to give myself time to form an opinion on whether I liked this show or not 😅.
How Dare You!? – This was fine. It was a relatively faithful adaptation of the novel (bar the ending) and the leads brought enough depth to their roles to make it watchable.
Waiting eagerly for Pursuit of Jade next weekend. Might try Generation to Generation or Love Story in the 1970s while I wait.
