Psychiatrist and TV personality Yang Jae Woong, boyfriend of idol-turned-actress EXID‘s Hani, has been on trial over a patient’s death for years.
He is now facing a shocking new development after authorities ordered a supplementary investigation.
On March 6, the victim’s family was notified via the Criminal Justice Information System that prosecutors had requested additional investigation into professional negligence resulting in death. The order applies to Yang Jae Woong and seven hospital staff members involved in the case.
A supplementary investigation is an additional inquiry conducted after an initial investigation to refine findings, address new evidence, or strengthen a case.
In addition to this, Yang Jae Woong faces allegations including violations of the Mental Health Welfare Act, the Medical Service Act, and the Emergency Medical Service Act.

The case has taken a severe toll on the victim’s family. Reports claim that the patient’s father has lost sight in one eye due to extreme stress.
Yang Jae Woong had been set to marry Hani in September 2024. However, news later surfaced that a patient had died at the hospital where Yang Jae Woong serves as director. It also became known that the couple announced their marriage around the same time the patient passed away, which sparked controversy. As a result, they decided to postpone their wedding indefinitely.
Yang Jae Woong’s hospital has received a suspension of operations until March 31. Meanwhile, Hani has been confirmed as the female lead in the upcoming KBS2 weekend drama Love Comes, set to air this August.
