On the 6th, a video was uploaded to Suh Dong Joo’s YouTube channel, where the broadcaster spoke about her past experience with divorce and loneliness.

In the video, Suh Dong Joo took time to directly counsel fans’ concerns. During the session, a story from a woman in her 30s who had cut ties with her younger sibling caught attention. The letter-writer said she had severed ties with her sibling and emotionally distanced herself from her parents, sharing her honest worries: “When I think about how lonely I might be, how hard things could get when I have to handle many things much later, I get scared. Sometimes I even think maybe I should get married to ease some of these burdens.”

Hearing this, Suh Dong Joo candidly shared about her father, the late Suh Se Won: “I’ve actually been through so much of this myself. Things like this happened in my family too. As you probably know, my father and I didn’t contact each other for a long time before he passed away. So, I want to say that I understand and have experienced what the letter-writer is going through.”

She added, “The time when you have to handle many things hasn’t come yet, so I hope you don’t worry too much about how lonely it might be. Surely, before then, something or someone could fill the emptiness in your heart, or you may become so fulfilled internally that you don’t feel that loneliness as strongly. Life is unpredictable. Don’t worry about it now. It’s okay to have cut ties and emotionally distanced yourself. Actually, if you talk to others, there are many people who have cut ties with family. Many go through this. Don’t forget, you are never alone,” she encouraged.

Suh Dong Joo especially advised, “But I’m against getting married just to erase loneliness. Humans are inherently lonely beings. Loneliness never fully disappears. And having a husband, getting married, or having children doesn’t necessarily make it go away. Sometimes, if you feel lonely even when someone is beside you, that loneliness can feel even stronger. Rather than viewing marriage as a solution, it’s better to strengthen your own mental state internally. When you become someone who can endure loneliness well, then meeting someone can lead to a healthy married life.”

She continued, “Because I didn’t know this secret back when I was young and lacking, I got married in that state, and I believe that’s why I got divorced. I didn’t really understand myself.”

Along with this, she added words of encouragement: “Since you’ve talked with me, even though you feel lonely, I hope you can become someone who can endure it well, fill your emptiness with healthier, more positive, and productive things, and become stronger. Then, when you do get married, it will be better.”

Suh Dong Joo married in 2010 but divorced in 2014. She remarried last June to someone in the entertainment industry who is four years younger. She previously opened up about her infertility, drawing attention.
