It’s been more and more common for groups to film music videos for follow up tracks. It’s a great way for rookies to keep their name in public discourse and have one more chance for a legitimate hit right out of the gate. Just a couple of weeks since their debut, DAILY:DIRECTION are already back with Self.
If you enjoyed the subdued sounds of ROOMBADOOMBA, you’ll probably like Self as well. If you found that sound a bit boring and toothless the way I did, Self is unlike to change that perspective. Its hook has a greater chance at longevity thanks to its melodic approach, but the overall atmosphere is still hazy. The group seem intent on delivering “the vibes” rather than grab attention via the ambition of their music, and in our streaming economy that’s probably not a bad approach. However, it’s rarely been what I turn to K-pop for and takes a fantastic song to really work for me. This one’s just okay.
