A popular actress received significant attention after apologizing for being “ugly” on her social media account. Mao Xiaohui, a well-known Chinese actress who appears in the role of the second female lead in Chinese Paladin 4, went through this unbelievable ordeal.

Her performance as Liu Mengli in the drama was widely criticized by Chinese netizens, primarily due to her appearance. In response, she made almost ten different posts on the popular Chinese social media platform Weibo, apologizing for her visuals.

In the first few responses, she apologized for her “ugliness,” expressing regret that despite working very hard to lose weight before the show’s filming, she still looked “so fat” on screen. She even apologized to her fans, who might have appreciated her previous roles.

    Hahahahahaha.

    Who understands.

Ah sorry that my ugliness upset everyone.

I actually lost weight and became thinner at that time, but ended up looking so fat while being filmed. I’m a big fat person.
Why is it so hard to lose weight?
Sorry to those who like me because of Xie Hang and Xiao Qian Xi [her previous roles]. Sorry to those who are watching this drama.

    — Mao Xiaohui

In the next few posts, the actress kept berating her performance in the show, asking netizens to block their eyes while watching it and “treat it like an audio broadcast.” She also mentioned how hard the criticism has hit her, saying that she had cried multiple times over it.

I cried for a little bit one day. It was funny. I forgot about it after crying. Meng Li has let everyone down. Sorry, everyone

    — Mao Xiaohui

Hahahahahahaha. I really want to tell everyone to just block your eyes when you see me. Treat it like an audio broadcast. Just watch everyone else.I cried again when I woke up.

    — Mao Xiaohui

In the end, Mao wished her fans a Happy Chinese New Year in advance, admitting that she had much more to say but couldn’t figure out the right words.

    I’m nothing.

    Me, I’m actually…

I have so much I want to say, ah but it seems like I don’t really know what to say. So I’m going to say Happy Chinese New Year in advance. Ah but Miss Liu [her current role] is really good she’s really really good.

    — Mao Xiaohui

After these posts created a huge buzz on Weibo, her Chinese Paladin co-star Mao Zijun left a comment on her profile, appreciating her performance as Liu Mengli in the drama.

In my mind, you’re the best Meng Li!

    — Mao Zijun

While this support from Mao Zijun was heartwarming, it didn’t do much to deter netizens from criticizing Mao Xiaohui over her performance. Some even went to the extent of saying his comforting the actress was ironic since his own performance has been poorly received by audiences.

International fans, on the other hand, have criticized the netizens intensely, calling out the harshness with which Mao Xiaohui is being treated online.

Currently, Mao Xiaohui is preparing for her role in Xi Jin Xi Jin as well as the upcoming broadcast of The New Version of the Condor Heroes.
