On May 10, Chinese singer Huang Xiaoyun sparked widespread concern online after her studio announced that she had been hospitalized after performing at the “Xungen Suizhou: Starlight Concert” in Hubei.

According to her management, the singer had already been experiencing serious physical discomfort during the event but still chose to complete her scheduled performance. Soon after stepping off stage, Huang Xiaoyun fainted twice, prompting staff members to rush her to the emergency department for treatment. Doctors were initially unable to immediately determine the reason behind her sudden collapse.

The news shocked many fans because the singer reportedly showed almost no visible signs of illness while on stage. During the concert, Huang Xiaoyun performed nine live songs, including several vocally demanding tracks known for their challenging range. Videos recorded by audience members and shared online appeared to show her maintaining strong vocals and high energy throughout the performance, leaving little indication that she was struggling physically.

Her management later explained that Huang Xiaoyun insisted on finishing the show out of consideration for the audience and because she did not want to disappoint fans who had attended the concert.
After undergoing additional examinations, specialists confirmed that the singer had suffered a recurrence of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), an inner-ear disorder that can affect balance and cause sudden dizziness or fainting. Medical staff reportedly connected the episode to severe fatigue, ongoing physical strain and prolonged sleep deprivation.

Chinese media outlets have since reported that Huang Xiaoyun had been working under an intense schedule in the days leading up to the concert. She was allegedly getting fewer than five hours of sleep each night while balancing recordings, rehearsals and frequent long-distance travel. Reports also stated that before arriving in Suizhou, the singer had completed another filming schedule and travelled around 1,000 kilometres overnight with very little time to rest or recover properly.
