Popular actor Watanabe Shun‘s past response to a question about dating a 15-year-old has sparked major outrage after gaining attention online.

A past interview from 2021 with the actor has sparked fury.
During the video, he was asked what age he thought about when it came to dating. When the interviewer asked, “15-year-old?” the actor explained that as long as it was “legal,” with parents’ consent and mutual consent between the two parties, he wouldn’t mind. The actor then added that for him, age wasn’t really an issue; it was more about mental age.
The clip was shared online, and as more people found it, they expressed disgust in the comments, particularly because, when the video was posted, the legal age of consent was 13 years old.
yknow sometimes i worry im getting too attached to a celebrity but considering how easy it was for me to just think “ok shu watanabe can go fuck himself” in light of recent news i think im ok actually.

To whoever plans to defend Shu Watanabe’s behavior from years ago, UNFOLLOW ME. I don’t care what excuses you have in his past verbal behavior but what he said was creepy and inappropriate, stop making excuses for everything just because you like someone.

I understand that it was from a clip from an interview 5 years ago… Still bro, Shu Watanabe SHOULD REALLY CLARIFY THIS MESSED UP SHIT RIGHT NOW. The age of consent in Japan is 16, like he should have just said no, what the hell…

So this is what’s actually said, just to make sure no one tries to defend him.
Q: 何歳から何歳までが恋愛対象?
A: 俺、別に恋愛対象、何歳!とかないかも。
Q: 15歳とかでもいけんの?
A:…
