An arrest warrant has been requested in relation to the Kim Sae Ron and Kim Soo Hyun‘s controversy, a case that’s been dragging on for over a year.
On the 20th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office requested an arrest warrant for Kim Se Ui, the head of Garosero Institute. This followed the Gangnam Police Station’s application on the 14th for an arrest warrant, citing violations of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (filming and distribution using cameras, etc.) and defamation.
Kim is accused of spreading falsehoods via YouTube broadcasts that Kim Soo Hyun dated Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor, and that the direct cause of Kim Sae Ron’s death was pressure from Kim Soo Hyun’s side to repay debts. He is also accused of damaging Kim Soo Hyun’s reputation by fabricating false information through AI-manipulated recordings of Kim Sae Ron’s voice.

The pre-trial detention hearing for Kim is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on the 26th at the Seoul Central District Court.
In May of last year, Kim held a press conference with Kim Sae Ron’s family, releasing a transcript claiming that Kim Soo Hyun had been dating Kim Sae Ron since she was a minor. After Kim Soo Hyun’s side filed a defamation suit against Kim, arguing that the transcript was manipulated by AI, the police requested an examination of the transcript by the National Forensic Service.
In November last year, the National Forensic Service notified the Gangnam Police Station that it was “impossible to determine” whether the audio file was AI-manipulated.
