The pressure to maintain a certain image in the entertainment industry has led many female idols to open up about the extreme diets they followed earlier in their careers. Over the years, several stars have revealed shocking weight-loss methods that left netizens both stunned and concerned.
One of the most infamous examples came from former IZ*ONE member and soloist Kwon Eunbi, as well as model Lee Sora and model Irene, who revealed surviving on just a single apple. According to the stories, the apple would be sliced into thin pieces and stretched across multiple days.
IU‘s pre-debut diet remains one of the most widely discussed among fans. The singer previously revealed that she consumed only one apple, two sweet potatoes, and a protein shake per day. During another period, she reportedly survived on water alone for six days and even stopped drinking water entirely on the final day.
ITZY‘s Chaeryeong also shocked fans when she revealed that there was a time she survived on only six or seven almonds and hot tea throughout the day.
Former I.O.I and Gugudan member Kang Mina shared an equally alarming story. During one extreme weight-loss period, she reportedly consumed only two bottles of sparkling water per day for two weeks, eventually reaching a weight of 41kg.
LE SSERAFIM‘s Sakura revealed that her daily food intake at one point consisted of just three pieces of kimbap. Meanwhile, HyunA once admitted to eating only a single piece of kimbap during her strictest dieting periods, causing many fans to question how she had enough energy to continue performing.
TWICE‘s Sana also appeared on the list after revealing that she once limited herself to just eight cherry tomatoes per day while preparing for activities. However, among fans, the most legendary and concerning diet story continues to belong to fellow TWICE member Momo.
Before debuting, Momo revealed that she was ordered to lose a significant amount of weight in a short period of time. Desperate to debut, she reportedly survived on almost nothing. According to Momo, there was a point where she ate only a single ice cube for an entire week.
The idol later recalled being so hungry that she was afraid to go to sleep because she worried she might not wake up.
Although many of these stories have become famous among K-Pop fans, they have also sparked ongoing discussions about the unrealistic beauty standards and weight expectations placed on idols.
Fortunately, in recent years, more artists have spoken out against extreme dieting, with many emphasizing the importance of healthy eating and sustainable weight management over dangerous crash diets.
