Korea’s National MC Yoo Jae Suk has addressed the controversy surrounding allegations of casting based on personal connections.
On the 11th, the YouTube channel DdeunDdeun released a video featuring BOYNEXTDOOR members Jaehyun, Taesan, and Woonhak. In the video, they revealed they grew up watching MBC variety show Infinite Challenge starring Yoo Jae suk, openly expressing their admiration for him.
In particular, member Jaehyun identified himself to be a big fan and expressed his desire to work with Yoo Jae Suk. Yoo responded, “That day will come,” but admitted, “Honestly, I’m also always in the position of being chosen by someone, so I can’t guarantee Jaehyun, Woonhak, or Taesan can be picked. But I can recommend them.”
He added, “In reality, the pick is made by the production team. I can recommend up to the door, but it’s up to you to decide to open it,” indirectly sharing his stance.
Earlier, Yoo Jae Suk had been embroiled in the so-called “Yoo-line” casting controversy, as he appeared with the same familiar members or mentioned juniors he had helped develop characters for, who then appeared as guests, including on the recently released Netflix variety show Jae-seok’s B&B Rules!.
Moreover, actors Lee Kwang Soo and Ji Ye Eun, who have worked with him multiple times, appeared on Jae-seok’s B&B Rules!, which did not help dispel the controversy. However, Yoo has consistently maintained his position that casting is the responsibility of the production team, which he respects, and that he only makes recommendations to enhance the program’s enjoyment and usefulness.
