A Korean star honestly opened up about the deep inner wounds and pressure regarding her appearance that she experienced, moving viewers emotionally.
On July 28th, Kwon Jin Ah appeared as a guest on SBS Power FM’s Cultwo Show, where she introduced her new album and shared candid thoughts.
Having released her third mini-album SAVE ME on the 15th, she announced a bold musical transformation filled with intense band sounds, saying, “Many know me as a ballad singer, but this time I prepared a rock album.”
Kwon, who participated in writing and composing all five tracks, explained about the title song “MONSTER,” “There was a time when I hated myself. It tells the story of that period.”
She added, “There were times when I thought of myself as a monster. That feeling still exists somewhat. I didn’t like my face, had gained a lot of weight, didn’t like my voice, felt like I wasn’t good at singing,” evoking much sympathy.
She also shared the pain of suffering from an eating disorder due to extreme stress about her appearance. Kwon Jin Ah confessed, “I thought I had to lose weight in the entertainment industry. It was really tough. I heard things like ‘If you’re fat, you can’t be a singer’ and ended up losing weight drastically.” This narrative of overcoming self-hatred and ultimately saving herself is sensuously embedded throughout the music and music video.
