Netizens didn’t hold back the criticism.

Recently, MEOVV became the target of criticism for their lack of relevance in K-Pop.

The same discourse has been raised about BABYMONSTER, but focusing on the popularity in Korea.

    BABYMONSTER | YG Entertainment

The group recently had a comeback with “SUGAR HONEY ICE TEA.”

Amid the recent comeback but also ongoing university festivals, an OP posed the question about BABYMONSTER’s lack of popularity in Korea.

    | Nate Pann

Maybe BABYMONSTER really isn’t that popular in Korea.

Looking at the fact that they haven’t appeared at a single university festival…

My guess is that universities want acts students actually know.

But since YG Entertainment prices bookings based on the group’s perceived value,

    universities probably think:

“For that amount of money, we’d rather not book them.

So there aren’t any universities trying to invite BABYMONSTER.

    — OP

Under the post, netizens shared their brutal criticism of BABYMONSTER and why they believe the group hasn’t met the popularity expectations in Korea that were anticipated when they debuted. Some stemmed from issues YG Entertainment has with the groups, while others were more specific about lyrics and even specific members.

    | Nate Pann

    • They’re exactly the kind of group YG would make, but this concept was already done by the previous generation, so it’s tiring and cliché now. Even BLACKPINK got repetitive. And honestly, the proportion of foreign members is way too high. Have you ever seen foreign idols become really popular in Korea? Not at all. Maybe overseas it’s different, but they don’t feel like a K-pop group, and foreign idols just don’t fit Korean sentiment.
    • First of all, if they performed, they don’t have a single song that people would know.
    • Their songs sound old-fashioned, and I don’t know why they don’t sing more in Korean. The songs that gained attention or went viral all had lots of Korean lyrics. YG has absolutely no sense.
    • Who wants to listen to lyrics like ‘Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday’? Seriously.
    • Ahyeon is a barrier to becoming a fan. She’s way too overwhelming.
